About Degree

This degree is currently under review and is not accepting new admissions.

Investigate your ideas about art

Works of art are portals of discovery that offer insights into past and present societies and cultures. Images and objects are repositories of our histories, revealing the things that seduce us, challenge us, inspire us, and communicate the complexity of human creativity.

This degree is designed to extend your knowledge in an area of art history you studied during the Graduate Diploma in Art History.

What will you do?

Our Master of Arts (Studies in Art History) includes supervision by research-active art historians. You will:

  • research and write a minor thesis on an independent topic.
  • partner with an individual academic mentor who’ll support and encourage your intellectual development.
  • build advanced skills in visual analysis, critical thinking and communication.
  • learn about the professional practice of art historians.

Where could it take you?

The minor thesis is designed to qualify you for higher degrees by research such as the Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy. You could also pursue careers in galleries, museums and auction houses. You might move into arts journalism or policy development. Perhaps you’ll work in marketing and communications or use your knowledge as a creative foundation area for primary and secondary teaching.
