What will you do?
Taught over three years full-time within a faculty ranked 50 in the world for computer science and engineering*, the degree leverages the University’s strong industry links and world-class research. Co-developed with industry, it features an emphasis on real-world experience, with an internship providing 456 hours of work-based training and industry internship opportunities embedded into the program during 3rd year.
In addition to gaining a broad understanding of the foundations of the construction industry and associated project management—you’ll develop skills in applying and using:
- new and emerging technology, including digital engineering tools and automation technologies (Industry 4.0)
- civil engineering principles and technology, in real-world construction contexts
- construction project and people management, including legal requirements
- systems thinking, building science and economics principles
- sustainability principles to design more eco-friendly construction processes
- effective interpersonal communication, and critical thinking.
The degree is taught across two schools—Civil Engineering and Architecture—and wherever possible you’ll share classes with students of both. This will prepare you well for a future career in which you’ll frequently work alongside professionals in these areas.
Additionally, the degree integrates learning with hands-on experience through teaching the final two years in block mode—enabling you to gain employment in industry after your second year and continue to work while you study.

Selection Criteria
Recent Secondary Education | Applicants with recent secondary education are those whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the last two years, however if you completed your secondary education more than two years ago, you may still be able to be considered on the basis of your secondary schooling. You must not have completed more than 2 years full time equivalent university study (48 units). You compete for a place with your Selection Rank (ATAR plus any applicable adjustment factors). Higher Education Study | You must have completed at least six months full time equivalent higher education study (the number of courses and units will vary depending on your prior institution however at the University of APSB, this equates to 4 courses / 12 units). A Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for each separate program you have undertaken (apart from some double degree programs where the GPA is combined). You compete on the basis of your best GPA. Work and life experience | To be eligible to sit the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) as as pathway for entry, you must be 18 years or over before 1 February 2023. If you have studied at higher education level in the last two years (for 2023 entry this means you were enrolled in either 2022 or 2021), you must not have accumulated more than a TOTAL of 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education study (ie. including any study prior to 2021). If you meet this criteria, you will be ranked according to your result in the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Your STAT result is not weighted between verbal and quantitative components. Career Readiness
Students who as part of their studies take part in The Academy by Deloitte experience will have the benefit of undertaking a paid internship with Deloitte. This internship is designed to shape their business readiness through significant real-world client exposure, access to multiple networking opportunities and relevant professional training.
A graduate of Construction Management is equipped with skills in socially and environmentally sustainable construction technologies, project management, and skills in civil construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and engineering construction management.
Utilising a broad skill set that blends construction management and technology, you might find yourself:
- overseeing and managing large-scale construction and infrastructure projects
- consulting with engineers, architects and technical trades workers
- coordinating labour, equipment and plant resources, as well as overseeing and managing contracts for work
- interpreting technical drawings and specifications for new infrastructure, as well as designing and managing sustainable building practices
There is also flexibility to move between the Associate Degree (2 year), the Bachelor Degree (3 year) and the Honours Degree (4-year duration). Our programs offer an innovative blend of industry relevant knowledge and skills – ensuring you’ll graduate ready to thrive in your chosen career.

Degree Structure
To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Construction Management, students must complete satisfactorily a program of study consisting of the following courses with a combined total of not less than 72 units, comprising:
- Level I courses to a maximum of 24 units
- Level II courses to a maximum of 24 units
- Level III courses to the value of at least 24 units
- Core courses to the value of 69 units
- Elective courses (Level II or III courses) to a maximum of 3 units, including Broadening Electives up to the value of 3 units at Level III. This content can be taken from any discipline.
- A 12-week work placement capstone experience.
